Large brown eggs, prolific and consistent layer

The ISA Brown is one of the most widely kept hybrid hens in the British Isles, and for good reason. Bred originally in France as a commercial brown-egg layer, she has become a firm favourite with smallholders and back-garden keepers alike. She is a warm russet-brown bird, often with flecks of white through the neck and tail, of medium size and tidy build, and she settles quickly into a new home.

What sets the ISA Brown apart is her steady, productive nature. She is an exceptional layer of large brown eggs and tends to keep going through the year with only a modest pause over the darkest winter weeks. She is hardy, undemanding and good-natured, which makes her a sensible choice for anyone keeping hens for the first time as well as for those who simply want a reliable supply of eggs.
