Our Skyline Blue Egg Layers are hybrids bred for their novelty of laying eggs in shades of blue, green and olive. The blue shell colour traces back to the South American Araucana, and these modern crosses combine that distinctive trait with the reliability and easy temperament of a productive hybrid. Plumage varies considerably from bird to bird, and many carry a small tuft or muff, so each hen tends to look a little different.
They are a lovely addition to a mixed flock, both for their character and for the colourful basket of eggs they produce alongside the usual browns and whites. Hardy, friendly and curious, they free-range well and settle happily with other hens. Shell colour can range from a clear sky blue to soft green or olive depending on the individual bird, which is part of their appeal.
